Let’s start by assuring you that planning your perfect day on the water will be fun and stress-free, and our experienced captains and crew will be happy to lead the way.
When you step on board, your captain will have a few questions for your group, and we’ll plan your aquatic journey together. If you choose, feel free to do as little or as much planning as you wish, we love to guide your choices based on your desires.
The top questions our team will ask are:
- What is your top request for your day? Is it that your group wants to snorkel with sea turtles or colorful Caribbean reef fish? Do you want to spend some time on the beach?
- For full-day charters, where do you want to eat lunch? Don’t worry if you don’t know, your captain will be happy to share their recommendations as well as their favorite places for tasty local cuisine
- Have you ever visited the U.S. Virgin Islands, if so, do you want to revisit some places you’ve already been or do you want to explore new destinations?
Other things your captain may consider when planning your perfect day on the water include if you selected a private full-day or private half-day charter, the forecast, water conditions and even events happening on island. It’s always a special treat when there’s a concert on the water or a special event happening on a beach.
Circumnavigating St. John, USVI
For private powerboat charters and private charters aboard our 50’ catamarans departing from American Yacht Habor on St. Thomas or from St. John, this is a great option for full-day experiences if your group wants to swim with sea turtles and have a unique lunch experience.
Maho Bay, St. John
One location your captain may suggest for your first stop on St. John for your private charter that has a high chance of seeing sea turtles is Maho Bay. Our team knows a few snorkel spots where sea turtles are frequently observed, however, please note that because we are observing sea turtles in their natural habitat we can’t guarantee sea turtle sightings.
Lime Out, Coral Bay, St. John
Have you ever enjoyed lunch at a floating restaurant? If your group is looking to enjoy a unique lunch experience, your captain may recommend a stop at Lime Out in Coral Bay on St. John. Lime Out is a top-rated lunch destination on the water, serving fresh tacos that can be enjoyed on their lily pads (seats floating around the restaurant) or onboard your boat. Just ask your Captain if Lime Out is open on the day of your charter.
Depending on how much time your group spends snorkeling and enjoying lunch and also if you’re on a private sailboat or private powerboat, you may have time for additional stops. There are many other bays with unique snorkeling opportunities that your captain may suggest for your best day on the water.
Sea Turtles, Colorful Caribbean Reef Fish & Lunch By The Water
So your group wants to: snorkel with sea turtles and with colorful Caribbean fish; and a few people want to walk on a white sandy beach; and you want to enjoy lunch by the water? For private charters departing from American Yacht Harbor and St. John, your captain will have suggestions for this experience too! Just one sample itinerary may include your first stop to Waterlemon Cay on St. John, then lunch at Lovango Resort + Beach Club and then stops at Scott Beach or Honeymoon Beach on St. John.
St. Thomas and St. John have no shortage of delicious dining options! You can also ask your captain about enjoying a food truck on the beach at Maho Crossings, St. John, and other beachside restaurant options on St. John, St. Thomas and Water Island.
Departing from Havensight in the harbor near downtown Charlotte Amalie also offers great snorkeling stops to Buck Island, Brewers Bay and a few out-of-the-way “secret harbors”; pairing great snorkeling with the best fresh fish tacos from Dinghy’s Beach Bar & Grill on Water Island, makes for a complete day of fun and relaxation for all of your group!
Snorkel Above a Sunken Ship
For another unique snorkeling option, ask your captain about exploring a sunken ship that has become an artificial reef and is home to a variety of Caribbean reef fish at Buck Island, USVI! After exploring at Buck Island, your captain may recommend a stop at Honeymoon Beach, Water Island for lunch and/or beach time. For private charters departing from Yacht Haven Grande on a sailing catamaran and with a powerboat from American Yacht Harbor on St. Thomas, this is a top-rated recommendation from our guests.
